A New Way to Understand Our Fragmented Selves:
Compassionate Insights for Trauma Survivors and Therapists
A free 1-hour live Webinar with Janina
Trauma is often understood as a series of past events. But traumatic events occur in unsafe environments, leaving the survivors with a legacy of lasting effects: fear, shame, self-blame, numbness, vigilance, anger, despair, and protective impulses that can persist long after the danger has passed.
Dr. Janina Fisher’s work offers a different way to understand the living legacy of trauma. Rather than seeing symptoms as evidence of brokenness or pathology, she helps us recognize them as the feelings, impulses, and survival responses of fragmented parts of the self — parts that formed in response to overwhelming experiences and developed to defend the client against the next traumatic event.
In this free one-hour webinar, Janina will draw from themes in her newest book, ‘Embracing Our Fragmented Selves: A Workbook for Trauma Survivors and Therapists,’ to explore how trauma-related symptoms can be understood as survival responses held by parts.
No matter how safe the client’s current environment may be, the parts do not feel safe. Some parts carry fear, and some feelings of shame and hopelessness that helped them submit. Others work to protect against danger through emotional numbing, anger and control, or seemingly self-destructive behaviors that defend by offering to end the client’s life.
